What is Chitosan and where does it come from?

Chitosan comes from chitin which is found in the bones of crab, crayfish, shrimp and lobster. Why should you take Chitosan?

Weight Control: Fat is not absorbed into the body with the presence of Chitosan. Chitosan is 100% natural and acts as a super fiber. Thus, supplementing the diet with Chitosan, is part of creating a cleansing process which is said to be extremely vital to weight loss. Chitosan can trap as much as seven times its weight in fat. It works with your body naturally to get rid of unwanted fat. People all over the world use Chitosan to help absorb fat lipids and speed their passage though the body. Studies have reported that test subjects lost 8% of body weight in four weeks when using Chitosan.

Cholesterol: Studies have shown that Chitosan can effectively lower serum cholesterol levels in the blood. In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, chitosan was shown to decrease total cholesterol in men and women. Hypercholesterolemia is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Orally administered chitosan binds lipids in the small intestine and reduces their absorption. Chitosan has been shown to decrease serum cholesterol in human studies. This study investigated the effectiveness of chitosan in reducing serum cholesterol without concomitant diet therapy.
