What is Chitosan and where does it come from?
Chitosan comes from chitin which is found in the bones of crab, crayfish, shrimp and lobster. Chitosan (pronounced Kite-o-san) has the amazing ability to bind to fats and cholesterol, encapsulating them before they can be absorbed by the body. It has been used for over two decades without side effects. Other than its fat binding action, Chitosan remains virtually inactive in the human body. It is taken from chitin, a polysaccharide found in the exoskeletons of crustaceans. It is processed by removing the shells from shellfish such as shrimp, crayfish, lobster, and crabs. Other names for Chitosan include: Chitin, Chitosan Ascorbate, N-Carboxybutyl Chitosan, O-Sulfated N Acetylchitosan, N, O-Sulfated Chitosan, Sulfated O-Carboxymethylchitosan, and Sulfated N-Carboxymethylchitosan.
Why should you take Chitosan?
Weight Control: Fat is not absorbed into the body with the presence of Chitosan. Chitosan is 100% natural and acts as a super fiber. Thus, supplementing the diet with Chitosan, is part of creating a cleansing process which is said to be extremely vital to weight loss. Chitosan can trap as much as seven times its weight in fat. Studies have reported that test subjects lost 8% of body weight in four weeks when using Chitosan.
Cholesterol: Studies have shown that Chitosan can effectively lower serum cholesterol levels in the blood. In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, chitosan was shown to decrease total cholesterol in men and women. Hypercholesterolemia is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Orally administered chitosan binds lipids in the small intestine and reduces their absorption. Chitosan has been shown to decrease serum cholesterol in human studies. This study investigated the effectiveness of chitosan in reducing serum cholesterol without concomitant diet therapy.
Anemia: Low iron in the blood is known as anemia. Many People appeared to have improved kidney function and less severe anemia after chitosan treatment.
Immune System: Tissue health is greatly increased with the use of Chitosan. From tooth and gum Infections to faster tissue healing after plastic surgery. The human immune system consists of humoral and cellular immunity and this protects the human body. The cells, which are mainly relating immune responses, are lymphocytes. Lymphocytes divide into T-cells and B-cells. In the living body, T-cells are created in the marrow and break up and multiply around the skin area of the breast glands, and it becomes T-cells. B-cells also in almost the same way reach to the peripheral immune organ. For the activities of these lymphocytes, the condition of the environment in the body is very important.
