According to the researchers from Britain’s University of Liverpool, a dietary supplement can save people from unwanted pounds after they go off their weight-loss plans.
The study showed that the dietary supplement alpha lipoic acid can “lock in” the benefits of a six-month weight loss program if taken after the diet is completed.
Goyns said, “Our discovery indicates that by following a calorie restriction diet for six months and then taking alpha-lipoic acid while eating normally, the same life extension effects will be experienced.”

What is Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)?
Alpha Lipoic Acid is an antioxidant, and is widely used in prevention of various diseases. Its main function is to increase production of glutathione, which helps dissolve toxic substances in the liver. An antioxidant helps neutralise free radicals in our bodies and protects our cells from damage. A free radical is an unstable molecule that tries to steal electrons from other molecules, thus causing damage. Smoking, pollution, car exhaust, fried foods are some sources of free radicals. Alpha lipoic acid is also easily absorbed into the blood stream, and it can also cross the blood brain barrier.
What does Alpha Lipoic Acid do?
There is a long list of benefits of Alpha Lipoic Acid, some have even gone as far to call it the "ideal antioxidant". All types of people will benefit from taking ALA. ALA will be even more beneficial for individuals with some of the following conditions:
• Diabetes or higher than normal blood sugar levels
• Have high cholesterol levels
• Are affected by cataracts (in early stages)
• Cardiovascular problems such as hardening of arteries
Obviously, the 2 biggest benefits from supplementing Alpha Lipoic Acid is its powerful antioxidant properties, and its ability to help increase Glutathione levels which plays a big role in dissolving toxic substances in the liver.
What is Riboflavin?
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is one of the B complex vitamins used in the body to convert food into fuel (glucose), which is burned to produce energy. B vitamins also help the body metabolise fats and protein and are necessary for healthy skin, hair, eyes, organs and body systems.
What does Riboflavin do?
Riboflavin is a component of two enzymes: flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). These enzymes are important in energy production, and are essential for normal fatty acid and amino acid synthesis. Because of their vital roles, cellular growth cannot take place in the absence of Riboflavin.
In addition to converting proteins into energy, Riboflavin also works as an antioxidant by fighting harmful particles in the body known as free radicals. Free radicals can damage cells and DNA and may contribute to the ageing process, as well as the development of a number of health conditions.
